Over a century of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the domestic intelligence and security service of the United States and its principal federal law enforcement agency. Operating under the jurisdiction of the United States Department of Justice, the FBI is responsible for enforcing over 200 categories of federal crimes and serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and an internal intelligence agency.
Attorney General Charles Bonaparte established the FBI's predecessor on July 26, 1908, creating a professional investigative force for the Department of Justice.
Hoover modernized the Bureau with scientific crime detection methods, fingerprint files, and forensic laboratories.
Post-9/11, the FBI transformed into a threat-based, intelligence-driven agency focused on counterterrorism, cybercrime, and national security.
To protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States.
